WooCommerce plugin – what does it mean?

Definition

WooCommerce plugin: the WooCommerce plugin connects the product data of a WordPress-based online store and the widget to the assistant.

The widget is displayed by a plugin installed in WordPress or by a code snippet inserted into the theme; the product data is updated via the WooCommerce API.

How it works

The plugin or a code snippet connects the WordPress online store with the assistant. The widget appears on the website, and visitors can ask their questions there.

Product names, prices and stock data come from the store’s API. The update starts hourly or daily, so the assistant gives the data from the latest update.

An example from a company

A customer asks from the product page, for example whether a dress is still available in size L. The assistant answers based on the stock data and shows the source. If there is no content for the question, it asks for contact details and hands the question off to a colleague.

What this means for business owners

A WordPress update can overwrite code inserted manually into the theme. So ask which installation route is recommended: the plugin, Google Tag Manager or code inserted into the theme.

Ask the provider what happens if there is no answer in the knowledge base: the right answer is that the assistant hands off and does not guess. If the stock figure does not come from a sync, the assistant may give yesterday’s data; so ask where it takes the figure from.

How we do it

At SmartAIAssist, the products, prices and stock of a WooCommerce online store are updated from the sync hourly or daily. Our team carries out the onboarding, and before go-live we check the assistant with ten test questions; a code snippet or the plugin puts the widget on the page. The Chat AI Starter monthly fee is €14.90 / month excl. VAT.
