Guide
What is an AI assistant worth per month to a small online store?
Short answer
The value comes from two sources: the customer service hours freed up and the coverage outside business hours. A small online store typically receives 15–60 questions a month, and 51.8 percent of visitor questions arrive outside business hours (1,686 questions, 21 customers, 2026-07-08 – 2026-10-06; customers in Hungary, CET). The calculator gives you the exact figure from your own inputs.
The monthly value of an AI assistant depends on two things: how many customer service working hours it replaces, and what it is worth to you that there is an answer at night and at the weekend too. The formula is simple, and you can calculate it with your own numbers in the calculator. The worked example here is only an illustration, and its assumptions are stated; the reliable figure comes from your own inputs.

What determines its value
The return comes from two main sources. The first is the working hours freed up: the assistant takes the repetitive, fact-based questions, and your colleague keeps what needs a human. The second is coverage outside business hours. In our own platform data, 51.8 percent of visitor questions arrive outside business hours (1,686 questions, 21 customers, 2026-07-08 – 2026-10-06), when nobody is there to answer.
The third return, revenue from faster answers, is not included in the formula below. This figure is not in the calculator either, because it varies greatly from one online store to another.
The formula
The monthly saving and the return can be calculated as follows:
- Hours freed up = questions per month × time per question
- Monthly saving = hours freed up × customer service hourly cost
- Return = (monthly saving − monthly fee) ÷ monthly fee
The formula needs three inputs: the number of questions per month, the time per question and the hourly cost. You know the first two from your own data; the hourly cost comes from your internal costs.
What the assistant replaces
Include in the formula only the questions the assistant answers. It takes the fact-based, repetitive questions: delivery, fees, promotion terms, stock, order status, opening hours. Your colleague keeps what requires coordination or an individual decision.
Measure separately what share of incoming questions belongs to the first group: take the number of questions per month and mark how many of them the knowledge base can answer. Use that number of questions in the formula.
What should not be included: complaints, payment disputes and the cases of upset customers. The assistant hands these over, so they do not appear in the hours replaced. Overly optimistic estimates come from treating every question as replaceable.
A worked example, with its assumptions stated
The worked example is only an illustration; replace it with your own numbers. We assume that a person needs 5 minutes to answer one question.
A small online store typically receives 15–60 questions a month (90-day data from 25 customers). With this assumption, at 15 questions a month the time replaced is about 1.25 hours a month, and at 60 questions a month about 5 hours.
To get the amount, multiply the number of hours replaced by your customer service hourly cost. The example deliberately contains no invented amount of money, because it only becomes reliable from your own data; the calculator gives you the figure.
When it is not worth it
If very few questions arrive each month, the saving is small, and the assistant is more a convenience than a return on investment. The return really shows where repetitive questions arrive in large numbers.
At 15 questions a month, the return according to the formula is modest. Here the main arguments are coverage outside business hours and the morning list, alongside the value of the hours replaced.
Where questions repeat and many of them arrive, the formula already shows a positive value. Where there are few questions, convenience and coverage are the argument.
What to measure before you decide
For the estimate you need three numbers from your own data. The first is the number of questions per month: you can read it from your customer service log or your email. The second is the time per question, that is, how long an average answer takes by hand. The third is the hourly cost of one customer service hour.
Our own platform data gives two reference points. A small online store typically receives 15–60 questions a month, and 51.8 percent of questions arrive outside business hours. So in addition to the working hours in the formula, there is a layer outside business hours that is hard to cover without a human shift.
Calculate it with your own numbers
The ROI calculator uses your own number of questions per month, time per question and hourly cost, and shows the working time replaced. The monthly fee and allowance of the entry tier are shown on the pricing page, excluding VAT.
The Chat AI Starter monthly fee is €14.90 / month excl. VAT, with an allowance of 500 answered questions per month. Onboarding is €200 excl. VAT, €100 excl. VAT with a 6-month contract and free with a 12-month contract, and the monthly fee is then reduced by 8 or 15 percent respectively.

Methodology
This guide is based on our own platform data (90 days, 2026-07-08 – 2026-10-06) and on our experience of onboarding online stores. We did not carry over the invented example figures of the old article; the formula and one worked example with stated assumptions remain.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI assistant worth to a small online store?
Where does the return come from?
From two sources: the customer service working hours freed up and the coverage outside business hours. The third, revenue from faster answers, is not included in the calculator.
How many questions does a small online store receive?
A small online store typically receives 15–60 questions a month (90-day data from 25 customers). This volume varies greatly from one online store to another.
When is the assistant not worth it?
If very few questions arrive each month, the saving is small, and the tool is more a convenience than a return on investment. The return is strong where repetitive questions arrive in large numbers.
Why does coverage outside business hours matter?
51.8 percent of visitor questions arrive outside business hours (1,686 questions, 21 customers, 2026-07-08 – 2026-10-06). At these times the assistant answers from the knowledge base and lists by the morning what was asked.
Where can I calculate it with my own numbers?
The ROI calculator uses your own number of questions per month, time per question and hourly cost, and shows the working time replaced.
