SEO audit: what does it reveal about a small business website, and what should you do with the result?

Short answer

On a small business website, an SEO audit uncovers the technical errors, the content gaps and the points where AI search engines cannot reach the site. The result is a series of tasks to fix; the score is only a summary. The Web AI assistant helps with SEO, GEO/AEO and accessibility audits, and with content creation.

The website is finished, you have uploaded the content, and you wait. Yet hardly any traffic comes from Google. The reason is often a technical or structural gap, which the audit uncovers.

An audit is like a health screening: nothing hurts, but the result shows where it is worth stepping in before something becomes a problem. Below is what the audit examines, how to read the result and what you can do with it. The goal is an order of priority: what is worth fixing first.

What an SEO audit examines

It is worth looking at four layers separately, because fixing them also requires different work.

Technical basics. Whether the site can be indexed, robots.txt and page availability, mobile display and loading speed. Google uses mobile-first indexing, so a page that displays poorly on mobile is also weaker in the search results. Slow loading also hurts conversion.

Content. Every page needs a distinct title and a short description that accurately describe the content. The heading structure is orderly: one main heading and subordinate sections. Image descriptions help the search engine and accessibility.

Structured data. Product, price and organisation markup makes the data machine-readable. This certainly matters in classic search, and AI search engines also understand the page better because of it.

AI search readiness. Whether the page is machine-readable, whether it contains concrete, citable answers, and whether robots.txt allows search bots. This layer is newer, but it looks at the same page.

What it uncovers on a small business website

For small businesses, the audit often shows the same errors. Titles and descriptions are the same on many pages, or missing, even though distinct text would count in the search results too. Image descriptions are left out, even though they are basic for accessibility and for Google image search.

Structured data is often missing or faulty: the product’s price and stock, or the company’s details, do not appear in machine-readable form. AI search readiness is zero on many sites, because the content is general and contains no concrete, citable answers to customers’ real questions. Fixing these usually brings the most.

The technical basics are not always in order either: robots.txt accidentally excludes a page, or the mobile display slips. None of this is visible on the surface, yet it affects indexing.

How to read the result

The audit gives a score, but the score is only a summary. The real value is the task list: what is missing on which page, and in what order it is worth fixing.

It is worth setting an order. Without the technical basics, the content stays invisible too, so it is worth putting indexability and speed in order first. Then come the title and the heading structure, then structured data, and finally AI search readiness.

It is worth splitting the result into two groups: what can be fixed quickly (title, description, image description), and what requires development (speed, structure, content creation). The first is an afternoon’s work, the second is scheduled work.

Once the order is set, it is worth keeping a list you can follow, because the audit is a snapshot: some fixes may bring new errors to the surface, which the next review will show.

What to measure after fixing

After fixing, it is worth tracking whether your appearance in the search results and in AI search engines has changed. The effect of technical fixes shows quickly; the effect of content can be measured in months.

What the Web AI assistant does

The Web AI assistant produces three types of audit: an SEO audit for the technical and content basics, a GEO/AEO audit for AI search readiness, and an accessibility audit for errors arising from image descriptions, heading structure and low contrast.

Alongside the audit, it also creates content: product descriptions, blog posts, FAQ content. The audit shows what to fix, and content creation fills in the missing text. The content is created from the knowledge base the company uploads, so it follows the tone and facts of the site.

The three audits run in one place: you do not need to look for separate tools for the technical, content and accessibility reviews. The result is broken down by page, so you can see where most needs fixing.

The Web AI Starter monthly fee is €14.90 / month excl. VAT; the exact figures are on the pricing page.

The audit is more a starting point than a verdict: it shows where most needs fixing. Request a demo on your own website, or see the prices. If you have a question, write to .

Methodology

This guide is based on our experience with our own Web AI audits and on Google’s search documentation. We always interpret the result in relation to the given site; in place of a general score, we describe the tasks to fix.

Frequently asked questions

SEO audit

What does an SEO audit look at?

The technical basics (indexability, speed, mobile), content (title, description, heading structure, image description), structured data and AI search readiness. Together, the four give the full picture.

Is a score enough?

No. The score is only a summary. The useful part is the task list: what is missing on which page, and in what order it is worth fixing.

What is AI search readiness?

It means that the page is machine-readable, its content contains concrete, citable answers, and robots.txt allows search bots. Without this, AI search engines cannot cite it.

What does the Web AI assistant do?

It produces SEO, GEO/AEO and accessibility audits, and creates content: product descriptions, blog posts, FAQ. The audit shows what to fix, and content creation fills the gap.

How much does it cost?

The Web AI Starter monthly fee is €14.90 / month excl. VAT; the exact figures are on the pricing page, excluding VAT.
